The island of North Uist is part of the chain of islands known as the Outer Hebrides or Western Isles. It is situated off the north west coast of Scotland. It is easily accessible by air from Glasgow and by car ferry from Harris, Skye or Oban.

North Uist has a population of about 2000 people and is connected by vehicular causeways to the neighbouring islands of Berneray, Benbecula, South Uist and Eriskay. These linked islands have a population of about 6000 people.

North Uist is a beautiful island with a strong Gaelic culture. It has beautiful beaches and is famous for its 'machair' landscape (the strip of fertile land running down the west coast of the Uists). In summer the machair is carpeted with wildflowers.

North Uist is a haven for birdwatchers and there is an RSPB reserve at Balranald.

There are lots of interesting archaeological sites to be seen including Barpa Langais and the nearby stone circle.

There are four hotels in North Uist and many B&B establishments, as well as self catering accommodation.
