ART IS THE MAP - a collective exhibition to mark Highland 2007 from The Uist Art Association.

Venue: Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre,

14 July - 11 August.

To mark Highland 2007, the exhibition ART IS THE MAP will feature a range of responses to the map of the Uists from some of the artists and makers taking part in the studio trail.

Using the map of the Southern Isles of the Outer Hebrides as our jumping off point gave us the idea of curating an exhibition based on participant's responses to meaningful areas of our environment on the fragile westernmost edge of Scotland. Each artist has chosen a particular location, area or point on the map as their inspiration to either depict, inspire, or respond to in their own way.

Each piece will be titled by its grid reference. A large Ordnance Survey wall map will accompany the artworks as part of the exhibition. The works will be plotted on the map with a thumbnail image and number. This exhibition will give the viewer a real insight into one of the most subtly beautiful and beguiling parts of Scotland and show how different artists see and feel their environment in a fascinating variety of ways.

ART IS THE MAP will be showing at Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Art Centre, Lochmaddy, North Uist from the 14th of July 'til the 11th of August, and we hope will tour thereafter to venues in the Islands and mainland Scotland. The exhibition will include work by artists and craftspeople. There will be a variety of media including oils, water colours, mixed media, photography and print as well as three-dimensional work
