CEUT Study Area Photographs: Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath hold a huge collection of over 2000 photographs documenting the people and scenery of North Uist dating back as far as the 19th cenury. This collection is held in the study area of Taigh Chearsabhagh and can be viewed by the public during opening hours. Laser copies of the photographs are available by filling in a request form at Taigh Chearsabhagh reception. (£2.50 each plus postage & packaging) Books: Recently a variety of Gaelic books have been donated and can also be used within the research facility. If anyone wishes to donate any books to this collection please see contact details below. Oral Recordings: There are over 200 oral recordings held at Taigh Chearsabhagh which have been recorded as an on-going research project over the last 10 years. A student has been employed over the summer to record native islanders on specific topics. They provide a valuable insight into what life was like over the past century and how dramatically it has changed. These can be listened to or borrowed on request. SCRAN A SCRAN project in 1999 enabled some of the collection to be digitised. You can view some of the CEUT collection on the SCRAN website.
If anyone would like to donate photographs to the CEUT collection you can do so by contacting John MacDonald (01876 500233) or any of the CEUT committee. The original photograph will be returned to you after it has been copied. |
