Hebridean Young Curators

In August 2005 the Heritage Lottery Fund agreed to fund Taigh Chearsabhagh £16,900 towards a Young Roots Project.

Fifteen young people, aged between 14 and 17 years old from Uist & Barra, have formed the Hebridean Young Curators group which will work with Taigh Chearsabhagh, Museum nan Eilean, Sgoil Lionacleit art & history departments and Comhairle nan Eilean Cultural Co-ordinators.

The project involves the young people curating their own exhibition in partnership with the National Museums of Scotland and the National Galleries of Scotland. The young people will be involved in every stage of the exhibition - conception, design, interpretation, marketing, etc.

The first stage of the project was to visit the National Museums of Scotland and the National Galleries of Scotland (31 October - 3 November), where the group had the opportunity to meet museum and gallery specialist staff, see behind the scenes, explore the exhibitions and develop ideas for their own show.

The group held an exhibition in Museum nan Eilean in Sgoil Lionacleit in the summer 2006.
