Short courses & workshops

Join our current students on one of the following short courses to gain skills and get a taste of studying in our studios in Lochmaddy. You will work with lecturers with decades of teaching experience in a vibrant and supportive creative environment. For further details about our college please visit the UHI Outer Hebrides website.

Autumn Semester 2022

Cyanotype : 25th & 26th of October, 9am – 4.30pm

You will learn the alternative photographic process of cyanotype, and experiment with both natural forms and photographic imagery. Cyanotype, invented in the 1860s, is a simple and versatile form of photography. By the end of the workshop learners will have a beautiful series of prints, and be fully equipped with the skills to continue the process on their own.

Painting : 1st & 2nd November, 9am – 4.30pm

This workshop will guide you through a series of exercises and experiments progressing on to observed painting from a still-life with plenty of room for self-expression. Beginner and more experienced students are welcome to join.

Lino-cut Printing 13th and 14th December, 9am – 4.30pm

This workshop will introduce you to the lino-cut process, from image development, cutting techniques and printing. Beginner and more experienced students are welcome to join.

Figure Drawing :

Mondays 31st Oct – 21st Nov, then 5th and 12th Dec, 1.30pm – 4.30pm

Working with a model, this course will explore a range of approaches to drawing – from quick, gestural drawing to more sustained poses, while experimenting with a range of media. Beginner and more experienced students are welcome to join.
