Launch of àite cruthachail/creative space

àite cruthachail/creative space

Taigh Chearsabhagh is delighted to launch a new Creative Space project at Sgoil Lionacleit (Lionacleit Secondary School), Benbecula. This project has been made possible with the support of our sponsor R C MacAulay (Kirkibost) Ltd of North Uist and match funding from Arts & Business Scotland via the Culture & Business Fund Scotland. Sgoil Lionacleit have worked with us, input to this innovative idea and provided the ‘creative space’ in the school for the project.

This is a really exciting and innovative project which creates a supported creative space in the school for students. The idea is that it encourages real creativity and opens up new opportunities for students to explore their full potential.

This is not about being able to draw, it’s focused on encouraging students to find ways of expressing and developing their creativity whether it’s visual art, performance, music, science, writing or any other path.

The space will have materials for students to use and every Friday afternoon a selection of artists, musicians, historians, scientists as selected by the young people will be on hand. The students will also take ownership of how the room develops, how additional funds are raised and what creative projects might be produced.

This approach has previously had really positive impacts on attendance, behaviour, skills development and access to experts not accessible through core curriculum.

The project is based on the Room 13 model and we are grateful for the help and support we have received from the Room 13 team.

We launch on Friday the 24th, 2pm – come along to Room 26!
