Machair Art

The Machair Art project is an exciting opportunity for the students to explore and investigate the machair through the media of art.  This will encourage a wider perception of contemporary art, the methods in which artists work and gain new skills in the areas of drawing and digital photography. It is hoped that the project will encourage thoughtful and physical investigation and analysis of crofting as a way of life.

It will also demonstrate how traditional crofting has a sustainable future if managed well and that it has the potential to offer young people a feasible livelihood.

“The students are making artwork about how unique and important the machair is and at the same time furthering their understanding of the rare and delicate balance of the rich flora and fauna of the machair and the threat of some species becoming extinct” Rebecca Cotton Project Manager
