Art workshop: In the Wake of Whales

Join us as part of the Outer Hebrides Wildlife Festival to celebrate the lives of 55 long-finned pilot whales and share their incredible story before they sadly stranded on Tràigh Mhòr, North Tolsta, Lewis, on 16 July 2023.

Together with schools in Uist, Harris and Lewis, we’re creating and decorating life-size cardboard pilot whales to honour their lives and journey. Be part of something special: get involved and help bring these whales to life, or just come and see them take shape!

Suitable for all ages, this hands-on event invites you to paint, print, and write messages on our ‘Community Island Whale’, helping to decorate a life-size cardboard pilot whale and imagine its life beneath the sea. All materials are provided.

Drop in to our session at Taigh Chearsabhagh any time from 5pm – 7pm on Saturday 21st June. Free and open to all.

You can also contribute through stories and Sea Ribbons which will become part of the final artwork: https://www.northharrisstudio.co.uk/stories-and-sea-ribbons

Your contribution will join others from across the islands in a collective artwork unveiled on 12 July 2025 as part of Keening: Song of the Stranding. Learn more about the project and the story behind it at northharrisstudio.co.uk/keening.
