Creative Hub: What do you need?

Do you have an active creative practice based in Uist? We want to hear about your needs and ideas to shape a new Creative Hub in Lochmaddy, in a way which sustains local professional practice.

Taigh Chearsabhagh are reviewing the details of local needs case and feasibility for studio and workshop space for creative work. Contributing to this review will directly influence any future planning and design adjustments.

We would like to invite you to take part in our online survey of creative practitioners in the islands, to assess the demand for a new Creative Hub to be based at Taigh Chearsabhagh. The Creative Hub would be one of a number proposed for the islands as part of the Islands Growth Deal, agreed by the UK Government, the Scottish Government and the three island local authorities.

Work on this project began in 2021/22, with a needs case and feasibility study created as part of the development of a business case for the project. This work included an analysis of the demand for studio space and other facilities. BiGGAR Economics, which undertook the studies in 2021-22 is working with Taigh Chearsabhagh to update the needs case, so that progress can be made on realising the proposed development, including securing the necessary funding. To support this, an updated reflection of current demand is required.

Following recent workshops with creative practitioners, an online survey has been created to gather views from the wider creative practitioners’ community and determine the extent, and nature of, current demand. The outputs of this survey will inform the updated needs case for the project.
