Since he first emerged as one of the leading figurative painters to have graduated from Glasgow School of Art in the mid 80’s, Currie has consistently addressed socio-political issues that speak globally to us through the medium of paint, charcoal and the intaglio or relief printed surface. Through homages to the great figurative artists before him (including Rembrandt and John Bellany) our humanity has been scrutinised and laid bare to audiences in bold and graphic terms.
Over the past 10 years Currie has been visiting the Uist islands, and inspired by the landscape, customs and traditions has developed new work that has a particular northern chiaroscuro.
