Mion-phuingean: Susannah Stark + Band

New date!

Susannah Stark & Band are an experimental ensemble from Glasgow, playing an extended folk session in details or locations around the Govan stones, river Clyde & underground waters.

Susannah Stark joined us at Taigh Chearsabhagh for the Romhainn residency last year, building on a longstanding interest in the art of song and multi-lingual expression, resulting in a live event ‘Stairseach’ that explored the feeling of being on the threshold, thresholds as places where we cross and exchange, finding mentions in archive accounts of Gàidhlig writing by women including Màiri NicLeòid.

Susannah has now joined forces with trumpet player Phil Cardwell, drummer Laurie Pitt, and accordionist Caroline Hussey to create ‘Mion-phuingean’ – ‘Minor Gestures’, a collaborative release on Glasgow’s Night School Records and Belgian label Stroom, that features new Gaelic songwriting. They have played live in Scotland, the UK and Europe, had music shared on Late Junction, BBC 6 Music, fbi.radio among other places and been nominated under ‘Best Electronic’ for the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.

We are delighted to have Alex & Rosie sharing an acoustic set as part of the evening, complementing Mion-Phuingean with songs written in and of Uist.

Please join us in the Cafe on Sunday 15th March at 7pm for Mion-phuingean. Book your tickets below – pay what you decide.

Susannah will also be leading a free outdoor workshop exploring responsive songwriting, vocalisation, and improvisation. This will take place in the Wee Woodland in Lochmaddy on Sunday 15th, at 11am. Book your free ticket here: Ogham-Chraobh: Sound & Voice Improvisation Workshop
