Residue is a collaboration of paintings, poetry and photography by Lewis-based artists, Ian Stephen (writer, poet, storyteller), Colin Myers (photographer, retired shipwright) and Christine Morrison (artist).

Please join us in conversation with the artists, at the opening preview of Residue, on Thursday 9th May at 7pm.

Christine Morrison has recorded audio descriptions of the images in the exhibition, which you can listen to using the playlist below. Ian Stephen has recorded readings of each of his poems which are interleaved with the audio descriptions.

Colin has been working in photography, both analogue and digital, for many years and exhibiting in many forums. The collaborative work between Colin and Ian was furthered through the an Lanntair mentoring scheme. Colin proposed a selection of images from his responses to human residue in the natural world. Ian responded with new poems written in direct response to the images.

Christine graduated MFA from the Art, Space and Nature programme at Edinburgh University (2012) and founded Shadow Studio in Bhatasgeir, (2022) where she works primarily in Painting, Printmaking and Bookmaking. Christine designed and made an artists’ book of the collaborative work between Colin and Ian, in conjunction with her own paintings responding to recent voyaging in the Hebrides.

This exhibition is an expanded form of the pages of the book.

Residue is open to view in Galleries 1 + 2 from 10th May – 31st August, 10am-4pm, Monday to Saturday.  The exhibition is free and suitable for all ages.  If you would like to support our continued programming and enable us to keep offering free events, please consider making a donation to Taigh Chearsabhagh.
