Preview 6 – 8pm Friday 26th May
This year, UHI Outer Hebrides will be hosting an Alumni Exhibition to showcase work from graduates of the BA (Hons) Fine Art. The course was established in 2006, in the beautiful coastal studios of Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre, nestled on the shores of Loch nam Madadh, in North Uist.
The programme initially ran in partnership with Moray School of Art, and in 2017 gained approval for the full 4 years to be delivered from the North Uist site.
It is truly wonderful to know how many alumni have continued their creative practice and this year’s group exhibition reunites graduates from across the whole span of the course’s seventeen years. Eighteen alumni will contribute work across a vibrant range of media and subjects including drawing, sculpture, installation, painting, film and more.
The theme of the exhibition is RITUAL / REBELLION! to encompass both the repeated sequences and gestures of creative practice, and a refusal of order; resistance to established traditions, and the urge to discover new pathways.
All our alumni chose to study in this unique environment, and the rich history, ecology and deep time of the island is braided into their work in one way or another. The exhibition will draw together the work of this varied group of creative practitioners, reconverging in the locale which stimulated their practice during their study on the BA (Hons) Fine Art, and beyond.
You are invited to join us for the preview of RITUAL / REBELLION! from 6pm on Friday the 26th of May. Everyone is welcome.
