Two paintings are shown. Short brush strokes in thick paint, using bright colours, depict a road leading to the horizon through grass, and the other is of two lochs reflecting a dappled sky.

Finding Peace

Finding Peace is an exhibition of new paintings from multidisciplinary artist Deborah MacVicar.

“My current paintings are made from recent healing walks which I have been doing in the landscape of Uist, in all weathers, in between my care work. I have explored side roads and paths for the first time, and revisited familiar places.

I have been seeing things in a new and different way, and taking snapshots on my journeys with a mobile phone camera, and sharing them on social media, for myself and others to see.

I have now been using these as inspiration for paintings made in my studio at East Camp, Benbecula.”

Deborah holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of the Highlands and Islands. Recent exhibitions include the Far Enough / Weit Genug residency and exhibition in Uckermark, Germany; RSA New Contemporaries 2012, Edinburgh, Scotland; and the Secret Sea residency and exhibition here at Taigh Chearsabhagh.

Curated for the Taigh Chearsabhagh café gallery with Uist Arts Association.

Deborah’s paintings will be on display in the café gallery, open 10am – 4pm, Monday to Saturday. They are also be available for sale now via our online shop.
