Biomass (NU20072014) is a large-scale floor installation by artist Sophie Morrish from her extensive collection of faunal remains, gathered on Uist over the last seven-years. This complex arrangement of skulls, bones, teeth and feathers, (in excess of 60 species to date*), certainly attests to the biodiversity of these islands, however, by avoiding taxonomic norms associated with science and museum display, the artist invites deeper questions about hierarchy, estrangement and commonality in our relationship with the natural world.
The UAA Literature group are proud to host a writer’s workshop with poet Christine De Luca, the Edinburgh Makar; a Scottish poet and novelist who writes in English and in the Shetland dialect which is a blend of Old Scots with much Norse influence. This is a rare chance to learn from one of Scotland’s most eminent writers.
Workshop costs £12, to book your place please contact 01870 603970
